The Piggs Peake Verdelhos have gained something of a reputation for delivering big wines. The 2007 is no different. This year two vineyards were used in the blend, the creek side vineyard at Broke and a forty year old vineyard at Muswellbrook.

The Broke fruit made a rich, tropical wine while the older vineyard produced a passionfruity style. We kept the tropical style for the base of the wine and blended about 40% of the passionfruity one into it. The resulting wine has a big tropical nose, full of paw paw and rockmelons.

The palate is very full with more big tropical flavours. This is a style robust enough to stand up to Thai curries and one which is designed for immediate consumption. That’s not to say it wont age, its just that most people who enjoy Verdelho like it for those tropical flavours and they fade with time. If you do decide to lay this wine down for 7 years you will get a pleasant surprise.
