2009 Sows Ear Semillion
It almost seems silly to write tasting notes about this wine. Wines off properly ancient vineyards like these suffer little variance year to year, they are too old for that sort of rubbish.
The Sows Ear Semillon is picked every year just as the lime juice and capsicum characters are leaving the wine and the tropical fruits are just appearing.
It is a lovely drink now with oysters and lime juice or sashimi. Fresh light and simple are the keys to matching this wine with food.
Otherwise, lay it down for 6-15 years and watch it change over time.
I personally think that this and the 2006 are the best Semillons Piggs Peake has produced.
